...So, it just came over the wires as I was trying to figure out what to write, that NFL quarterback Michael Vick is going to plead guilty to the charges of dogfighting that he's facing.
The plea agreement comes just as a grand jury was about to meet to potentially levy additional charges. If that wasn't enough to spur him into action, the 3 co-defendants he had already plead guilty and agreed to testify against him for his part in executing "underperforming dogs".
That's right, I said executing and not killing because deciding to hang or drown a dog is plain and simple execution. I hope they throw his rear end in jail because he deserves it. Granted, these dogs would not make good house pets after being trained to fight and kill in the ring, but to execute them nonetheless is cruel.
And he's pretty much guaranteed that his career is over. He's been barred from training camp and he's being investigated by the NFL over the gambling (charges of that alone could result in a lifetime ban). Chances are good that he's going to be about a quarter of a million dollars poorer soon and be trading his black and red Falcon's uniform for prison orange.
He's lost his endorsement deals - Nike isn't paying him, Reebok isn't selling his jersey any more and Donruss is pulling his card from all 2007 packs. They're going to try and forget that Michael Vick exists. And in the fast world of the NFL Vick will probably not be remembered past the first couple of games of the season. Oh sure, someone will comment about it during the Falcon's first couple of games and that's about it.
He says he's sorry for what he's done and apologizes to everyone affected by this. In private he's probably beating himself up for getting caught and having stupid friends who are willing to rat him out. I think he's got great friends who are ratting him out before he can try to buy/talk his way out of the charges and are willing to go to the mat to have him join them in jail.
Yes, I'm giggling with glee. There's only one thing that would make it all better - that they let Vick *back* on the field for the season. I think he should be allowed to play. No, it's not because I know that he would be a target for the other players to try and crush. He should only be allowed to play if he gets special rules based on his performance...
...he gets to suffer the same way the dogs did if he "underperforms".
