What We Need To Survive...

...I don't remember who I got this from... but I found it interesting. If anyone can prove or refute it, I'll note that here...

Did you know what the average acreage per person the normal American needs to
sustain their current life style is? 10 acres per American

It breaks down in the following way:

1.9 acres of Cropland

2.4 acres of Pastureland

2.6 acres of Woodland

2.2 acres of other lands (factories, house, roads)

9.1 acres total required / person

plus an additional .75 acres to dispose of our waste.

Now, even if that's slightly inflated, don't you think that 5 acres is too much? How much land is too much land? I need 10 acres to survive, but I have probably about a half acre to live on (house, backyard, etc). And the population of the world goes up, but the land mass does not increase to accomodate it.

It's no wonder there are people out there screaming that we're going to run out of resources. If this is even 1/4 accurate, they're absolutely right. But we didn't need statistics or screaming environmentalists to prove that to us. It's just basic logic....

....just a little something to think about today.
