...There are so many to choose from. Swimming, hiking, yoga. Oh, you thought I was talking about those *other* summer games that are going on in Beijing? Well, there are those too. We're watching those in my house, but we've been participating in our own summer games this year.
The kids didn't get signed up for summer camp this year. No school sponsored all day thing, no Y Camp. This year we made up our own summer camp, and DH and I were the counselors.
We've even had a schedule - and we kept it! We had regular sessions of science lessons where root beer and rockets were made. We had Thursday swimming sessions in MIL's pool. We even had cooking and crafts (no, not at the same time). The girls can now confidently make rice, pizza (from scratch), cheese puffs (the type you find at parties, not the orange dust type in bags at the store) and a variety of other things.
Yes, this has been my employment for the summer and the kids have enjoyed it. So have I and DH for that matter (he was a camp counselor too). But camp is coming to an end this week, and we're wrapping up the summer program. The kids get next week off and then school starts right after that, so I can get back to my regular program of finding gainful employment.
Meanwhile, we're going to get back to the games. The real summer games of running and getting sweaty and having smiles on our faces. We watch those other summer games when camp is out of session for the day...
...because why watch, when you can *do*?
