Lunatic Fringe...

...and no, I don't mean the Pink Floyd song, although I'd much rather muse on that than what I'm about to.

Would you fabricate or embellish something in your blog just to make it more interesting, or to convince someone of something that isn't true? Or to convince yourself...

I started pondering this question after I read a blog by someone (who shall not be named or pointed out in any way) that clearly isn't true. It was so against this person's normal nature that it was laughable (and still is).

A blog is a personal journal - an online diary of sorts. Would you lie to yourself in your diary? I mean, knowingly and willingly lie - knowing that someone else could potentially read it. Or even if you think no one is reading it, is it convincing yourself of something that truly isn't the case?

If you just want to be part of a large community, would you lie and say you're a crafter/stitcher just to justify your existence on that site (when you really don't)?

If you're a negative person, would you put a sunny slant on everything you write just to convince someone of something otherwise?

Would you, could you... fabricate something just because you knew you could and no one who was really close to you could corner you on it and ask why? (Mostly because they either don't read your blog because they don't know it exists, or because you don't let anyone get that close).

Doing stuff like this is the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

Why can't people be themselves? Why can't they be happy being themselves, no matter what state that might be? If they're truly unhappy with the state of thier lives, whether it be by thier own fault or others, then they should do something to change that, right?

What's the point of lying to yourself and to others? Deep down, you're going to know the truth, and if you're lying to convince someone else of something, that's going to wear thin really quickly.

After all, it takes a lot more energy and mental acuity to lie than it does to tell the truth...

...unless you happen to be a pathological liar.
